    Why doesn't Metcal soldering station need calibration

    A question we are often asked is:“Why doesn't Metcal soldering station need calibration”. In fact, many soldering stations no longer require calibration, partly due to changes in IPC standards.
    Traditionally, traditional soldering stations use temperature measurement sensors to provide feedback on the temperature of the heating element (rather than the tip temperature). In many systems, the displayed temperature is between the tip (working surface) and the heater, and then fed back to the temperature control PCB. These temperature sensors can vary over time. This difference can cause the displayed temperature to differ from the measured temperature.
    If your traditional soldering station can perform repeatability testing, you need to adjust the heater PCB controller to return to an acceptable temperature repeatability range, or match the displayed temperature by turning some calibration screws on the soldering station. This is a time-consuming operation, especially if you have many manual soldering points.
    Calibration means that due to various components, the system must be periodically adjusted to maintain correct operation. The calibration schedule is based on the expectation of when these components will have tolerances and the expectation to make adjustments before they have a negative impact on your process.
    The calibration schedule of Smartheat is longer than the system's lifespan, so there is nothing to adjust, so the system cannot change from its initial state. Use the physical properties of materials to control temperature. Therefore, there is no need for calibration.
